Codes of Rights
Mokopuna/service users supported by Te Anua Nua Trust have the right to:
- To be treated with Respect and have Dignity upheld
- Opportunities to meet others and develop friendships of choice
- Assistance meeting needs, including safety, free from abuse and neglect
- Personal space and privacy appropriate
- Develop lifestyle pursuits which enhance well-being and enable participation in the local community
- Support from kaiawhina/staff who are competent and treat personal information confidentially
In relation to informed consent, I have the right to:
- Receive information in ways they understand, including in their own language
- Have someone (guardian, whanau/family, advocate) help them to understand the choices available to them
The following standards are adhered to:
- Whaiora/service users are supported without judgment or prejudice to develop similar patterns of living to their able peer group reflecting their full range of needs and interests;
- Whanau/family and friends are welcomed and actively encouraged to support whaiora/service users in the development and enjoyment of their lives;
- Local iwi and communities are approached, educated and supported to assist whaiora/service users to be part of the community. The Trust aims to encourage and enhance the development of support networks;
- The Trust recognises important transitions of life as being of special significance to whaiora/service users and their whanau/family such as birth, childhood, entering childhood and times of grief and death.
- The success of Te Anua Nua Trust should be measured against a yardstick of steady, progressive improvements in the tinana/physical, wairua/spiritual and hinengaro/mental well-being of the whaiora/service users, whanau/family and communities and advances in understanding tikanga and health for not only Maori but for all who need or request support.
