Ko Wai Mātou – Who We Are

Te Anua Nua Trust is a community-based disability support provider grounded in kaupapa Māori values and a deep commitment to manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, and kotahitanga.
We work alongside individuals (tangata whai oranga) and their whānau to support lives lived with dignity, choice, and purpose.

We believe every person holds inherent mana. Our role is to uphold that mana by providing support that is person-centred, culturally responsive, and relationship-led. We do not see care
as a service alone, but as a shared journey built on trust, respect, and aroha.

Te Anua Nua Trust was established in response to a clear and heartfelt need within the community.

The Trust emerged from concern for individuals and whānau who were struggling to find disability support that felt safe, personal, and culturally grounded. Many families were seeking more than compliance — they were looking for a place of belonging, a sense of kainga, and support that recognised the whole person, not just their needs.

Central to the Trust’s foundations is the influence and legacy of the Wera Kohaopa Māori Organisation, which has been providing care, advocacy, and support to whānau and the wider Māori community for over 30 years. Their long-standing mahi, commitment to whānau
wellbeing, and deep roots in the community have helped shape the values and approach that Te Anua Nua Trust continues to uphold today.

From these beginnings, Te Anua Nua Trust was formed to create a supportive home environment where people felt valued, heard, and respected — a place where relationships mattered and wellbeing was holistic.

That founding kaupapa continues to guide our mahi.

Our values shape how we support people, engage with whānau, and walk alongside our community:

  • Manaakitanga – Acting with care, compassion, and respect in all that we do.
  • Whanaungatanga – Building strong, trusting relationships with whānau, kaimahi, and community.
  • Tino Rangatiratanga – Supporting individual choice, independence, and self-determination.
  • Whakapapa & Cultural Identity – Honouring identity, culture, and the stories that shape who we are.
  • Kaitiakitanga – Being responsible stewards of safety, quality care, and long-term wellbeing.

Today, Te Anua Nua Trust continues to grow while remaining firmly grounded in its original kaupapa. We work in partnership with whānau, kaimahi, clinicians, and community organisations to ensure our services are safe, responsive, and culturally affirming.

As we look to the future (anamata), our commitment remains clear:

to uphold the mana of every person we support, strengthen whānau connections, and deliver care that is not only compliant and professional, but deeply human, values-led, and community-rooted.
